Avoid the Summer Slide with the High-Interest Fiction

Amos Elementary - DeVarennes

One of the greatest academic challenges students in poverty face is maintaining their academic growth throughout the summer months due to limited access to books. The goal of this project is to provide Amos students with rich literacy experiences throughout the summer months to prevent what's commonly known as the "summer slide". This project will add 200 carefully curated, newly published titles to the Amos library to support student choice of diverse, high-interest general fiction, picture books, and graphic novels that will keep Amos students reading all summer long.

Ron Clark Academy

Arlington Collegiate High School - Haggerty

This grant will be used to fund professional development for teachers to attend training at the Ron Clark Academy (RCA). At the Ron Clark Experience, teachers will be trained on increasing student engagement/participation, building relationships with students, and creating a climate and culture for success.

Building Literacy With Playaway Audio Books

Barnett Jr High - Haschke

This project will add more Playaway audiobooks to the Barnett Junior High library collection. Playaways audiobooks are proven to help students become better readers and become more effective learners through listening. Playaway audiobooks increase self-esteem and confidence, foster motivation to read, and help students experience the joy of reading. Research has also proven that Playaway audiobooks highly benefit reluctant readers, struggling readers, below-level readers, and students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia.

We want to expand vocational learning out to the community which will provide authentic (real time learning) to exceptional students. Part of the funds will be used to fund a coffee cart that our students will maintain and serve our campus community. This would encourage students to practice their social, communication and vocational skills necessary for successful future employment.

Establish VEX Robotics in the Classroom

Dan Dipert Career & Technical Center - Herron

VEX Robotics Competition presents a new game every year, which requires that students analyze the presented tasks in order to design, build and test a robot without "ready-made" instructions. The design process reinforces industry skills and reinforces soft skills, such as team building, leadership, decision making, and problem solving. Student engagement is reinforced through competition.

Ditto Elementary - Murrow

This grant would provide current quality biography books with many different reading levels for the Ditto Elementary School Library. Many of our grade levels study and create projects about important people, including athletes, inventors, authors, musicians, world leaders, civil rights activists and scientists. Our teachers and students need access to accurate, updated biographies to be successful regarding their goals.

Our goal is to provide students with access to hands-on, innovative learning using the iPads and Osmos to enhance learning opportunities and inspire our learners to take risks and ownership of their own learning. The Osmo Genius Kit will increase rigor and higher level thinking skills through literacy, numeracy, and problem solving while collaborating with others to help build a strong foundation in K-2 that is necessary for future learning.

Arlington Raises Literacy Outcomes (ARLO) Bookmobile

Library Media Services Department - Cano

The AISD Library Services Department and six school librarians in the Librarians LEAD leadership program will operate the Arlington Raises Literacy Outcomes (ARLO) Bookmobile during the summer for students attending seven AISD elementary schools with low Reading STAAR scores. Providing students enrolled at these campuses with access to books during the summer months will increase reading achievement of students as well as boost literacy skills and promote reading for enjoyment.

This cart of Chromebooks will enable my students to publish their written pieces for a variety of audiences and network with other students across the district. We will also collaborate with each other via Google Drive/Google Slides and Seesaw on the creation of multimodal science projects and digital writing portfolios Outside the classroom, these Chromebooks will allow us to incorporate technology-based learning into campus-wide Family Engagement Nights and our student organization, Little Ladies.

This grant represents an opportunity for two teachers to enhance integration of technology in the classroom. Having accessible chromebooks in each classroom allows teachers to develop meaningful lessons on Canvas, IXL, DeltaMath, Kahoot, Quizziz, ect and create different opportunities for students to communicate what they've learned. Students will use technology to deepen their understanding of Mathematical concepts and use engaging technology to practice their skills.

Martin High School - Severns

This project will allow the librarian to add makerspace items to teach/reinforce math, science, and design concepts. All students will have access to these items, and special STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities will be offered during lunch and after school to encourage the use of these items. Activities will require creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and/or communication while coding, building models, creating circuits, and more.

Housed in the library collection, both teachers and students will have easy access to these engaging new learning tools.
