Don’t expect any starving artists to come out of Arlington schools… These students bring in the BIG BUCKS for their artwork!
The Arlington ISD Education Foundation held a reception honoring AISD 5th grade art students for their amazing art work. Students submitted ceramic plate designs into the annual Dream Makers Art Contest earlier in the year. Art teachers chose 4 designs to represent their school, which were publicly voted on for a winner. One student from each elementary school won a slot for their plate to go to the Dream Makers Banquet Auction. Students were taken to Creative Hands in Arlington to create their masterpieces for the auction.
Fine Arts Interim Director, Linh Nguyen, hosted the evening in the AISD Professional Development Center. He gave the young artists an encouraging message about following their dreams with hard work and the belief that they CAN achieve great things. He spoke about philanthropy, and how the proceeds from the plate auction funnel right back into their schools through the Education Foundation.
Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos and AISD Board of Trustees President, Dr. Aaron Reich, also spoke, congratulating each child with a hand shake and a photo opportunity for their parents. Each child received an award to take home as families and teachers cheered from the audience.
It was a celebration that brought in Arlington’s Mayor, AISD Board of Trustee members, Education Foundation Board Members, teachers and educators, and Arlington community members. Each person there scoping out which plate they would be bidding on the following Monday.
Just how much did these young artists bring in for their schools? Auction bids on plates ranged from $50-$220 – with EVERY plate being sold at auction! These students brought in a total of $3,556.00 in sales/donations!
